Kanaani made the remarks in response to an IRNA question on Friday about comments made by some American officials about the appointment of an Iranian ambassador to chair a major UN human rights forum in Geneva in 2023.
Their remarks are nonsensical, said the spokesman while stressing that the US officials should respect such an appointment as it was made after a voting and was supported by other countries.
Despite all those pressures from the US, the Islamic Republic does not stop moving on the path of cooperation and participation to improve the human rights situation around the world, the spokesman underlined.
Ambassador and Permanent Representative of the Islamic Republic of Iran to the United Nations Office in Geneva, Ali Bahreini, was appointed on May 11 as the rotating president of the 2023 Social Forum of the Human Rights Council as of November.
The Forum is to be held in Geneva, Switzerland, on November 2-3, with the aim of preparing the ground for member states and participating representatives to exchange views about the role of science, innovation, and technology in promoting human rights, particularly in the era after the coronavirus pandemic.
